Active Communities

The Active Communities team supports, empowers and provides opportunities for residents and groups to be more physically, mentally and socially active.

Through a range of commissioned programmes the team works across the life course to increase, promote and strengthen health and activity provision for all ages. These include Community Build, Healthier Schools, Promoting Independence, Active Coast, Positive Lifestyles and Inspire weight management programmes.

Working within a place-and-needs based model, we connect residents and community activity, build opportunities for clubs and groups, develop local health networks, and deliver activities to improve health and wellbeing and combat inactivity level.

Goole drop in events

The Active Communities Team will be doing weekly drop-ins into different venues in the Goole area every Monday in January, and then the last Monday of the month to June. Team member Jez will be available to talk to local residents about physical and social activities available in Goole and surrounding communities.

During the drop-ins, the team will be able to support you on a variety of topics, including:

  • Finding physical and social activities: Discover fun ways to stay active and connect with others in your community.
  • Connecting with local groups: We'll point you in the right direction for groups that share your interests.
  • Accessing wider support: Get help from East Riding Yorkshire of Council teams and local partners regarding funding, training, community meetings, and more.
  • Trying out new activities: We help community groups set up taster sessions to encourage residents to get involved.
  • Supporting volunteers: We offer CPD training for community groups to enhance volunteer skills and knowledge.
  • Addressing health and well-being concerns: Get guidance and support for any health and well-being issues you might be facing.
  • Sharing your voice: Help shape the future of your community by sharing your thoughts on desired physical and social activities.
  • Stay informed about initiatives: Learn about local Health & Well-Being projects like the East Riding Leisure Goole Hub redevelopment and Victoria Pleasure Ground 3G renovation.

Bereavement Walk and Talk

In Partnership with Talking About Loss charity, the Active Communities team will be leading a series of relaxing and supportive walks around Goole for all who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Participants will have the opportunity to talk as they walk. Walks are at a leisurely pace and last for an hour. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the walk. Walks will start and end at Goole Library.
